
Wallace Albert Smith 96, of Acworth died Tuesday, August 19 at Cartersville Medical Center. “”Wally Gator”” retired at the age of 84 from Yellow Freight, breaking the record as their oldest driver. He served honorably in the Navy during WWII and when he wasn’t on the road for work he was at the golf course. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Acworth and finally made it to Augusta this year to watch the Masters.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, Anna and William Smith; daughters, Sharon Nadeau and Elaine Howard; brothers, Burney Smith and Marshall Smith and grandson Joseph Mageau. He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Lorraine Smith; Daughters Linda Wright and her husband, Rodney, Jacqueline Eldred of Effinham, SC; JoAnn Martin and her husband, Bertin of South Windsor, CT, Barbara Cyr and her husband, Roger of East Hartford, CT, Patricia Cyr and her husband, Bertrand of Coventry, CT and Robin Breton and her husband, Joe of South Windsor, CT; son, Michael Smith of Cartersville, GA and his wife Cecile; Sister-in Law, Joyce Knox and her husband, Donald; He leaves 18 Grandchildren, 21 Great Grandchildren; 3 Great-great grandchildren and 5 nieces.
A memorial service honoring the life of Mr. Smith will be held at a later date.
