Karunanithy Velmurugu

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Karunanithy Velmurugu, a beloved husband, esteemed professor, and cherished member of the Douglasville community. Karunanithy passed away peacefully on Monday, November 10th, 2025, at the age of 61.

Karunanithy was born on Monday, June 29th, 1964, in Batticola, Sri Lanka. He was the beloved son of the late Velmurugu Sinnathambi and Annama Velmurugu. His journey through life was marked by a profound dedication to education and a passion for sharing knowledge, which he imparted to countless students throughout his distinguished career as a professor.

Karunanithy is survived by his devoted wife, Tenekio Karunanithy, who resides in Douglasville, GA. Together, they built a life filled with love, mutual respect, and shared dreams. He is also survived by his children; daughters, Brooklyn and Lilléyana, and sons, Harris (of Chennai, India) and Uthayasuriyan.

Karunanithy's legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew him, as well as in the minds of the many students he inspired.
