Donald Colbert Murray, age 76 and the oldest son of the late Alexander (Jack) Murray and Jean B. Murray died peacefully Friday, July 3, 2009
at Heartland Hospice in Cartersville. He was educated in the Marietta public school system and a graduate of the University of Georgia. He served in the Georgia National Guard and United States Army. Early work experience included radio broadcasting for station WFOM in Marietta and stations in Athens and Gainesville while still a student.
He later pursued careers in public relations, the print media and life insurance sales in Nashville, TN. Returning to Georgia, he held a number of positions before retiring from the National Automobile Parts Association (NAPA) store in Smyrna in 2005.
He is survived by a son, John F. Murray of Oakland, CA, a daughter Katherine Murray of Eads, TN and a brother Alexander J. Murray of Peebles, Scotland.
A member of St. Jude's Episcopal Church of Smyrna, a service of remembrance and celebration of life will be planned at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Georgia Alzheimer's Assoc. or St. Jude's Outreach Program on his behalf would be appreciated.
