David Fredrick Nettles, 80, passed peacefully in his Temple, Georgia, home on May 3, 2025, after a three-month battle with pancreatic cancer surrounded by his family.
Born July 26, 1944, in Oswego, NY, to Mary Louise “Midge” (Pilon) and Raymond Nettles, David grew up with his four brothers, Charles, Gilbert, Ronald, and James. A Vietnam veteran, David served in the Marine Corp for nine years earning his three wings before being honorably discharged to start his family in California. Upon the passing of his first wife, Barbara Jean (Winkler), he returned to Oswego with his two children to be close to family. There, in late June, 1983, he met his wife of 40 years, Michele Kay (Shufelt). Together they blended their families, raised their four teens, became grandparents and great grandparents, and embarked on several adventures.
Always staying busy, Dave has shared his hobbies and interests with those close to him, laughing, loving, and making memories until the day his “get up and go, got up and went.”
He is survived by his wife, Kay; children, Deb Nettles (Will), Ted Hannock (Danielle), David F. Nettles, Jr. (Lauren) and Kellie Trefzger (David); grandchildren, Veronica Kolegas (Ryan), Jordan Barbeau (Gabby), Alex Nettles, Christopher Hannock, Faith Hannock, and Leah Trefzger; as well as adopted family members, Emily Fogle, and Jennifer and TJ Durden.
A service will be held on May 15, 2025, at 1:30 PM, at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia with Military Honors.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Patriot Guard Riders, Georgia Chapter, at http://www.pgrofga.com/
